The 20th Century was probably the most violent in history. While previous centuries had seen large wars in localised areas, the technology of this period meant that the wars took on a global nature. In 1945 the world entered the Atomic age as the Allies used two nuclear weapons to defeat the Empire of Japan and end the second World War.
