2000 BC - 1001 BC
This period 3000 to 4000 years ago is when recorded history and legends combine.
The earliest known armies were formed even earlier about 2500 BC by the City States of Sumeria consisting of infantry and war wagons or primative chariots pulled by asses.
The region of Mesopotamia and the Eastern Mediterranean saw a series of campaigns by the Egyptians, the Hittities, the Greeks, the Israelites and others to control the lands of the region, around the coast and islands as well as around the Nile, Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
Troops of the period were typically armed with light bronze weapons and armour. Composite bows were the most powerful weapon on the battlefield, and the introduction of the light, two wheeled horse drawn chariot gave portions of the army greater mobility.
