WargamingWargames take many forms but are basically the recreation of a military action, either historical or theoretical, using pieces to represent troops and rules to represent the ebb and flow of battle. They take many forms but we have basically grouped them into the following categories;
Figure wargames are the very popular and cover the widest range of military actions.Metal and plastic figures abound in many scales and are supported by rule sets of various complexities and a full host of figure and scenery suppliers and clubs dedicated to the hobby. Board wargames are the oldest, and chess is the most obvious military board game. Board wargames typically create a scenario and have counters to represent the forces under the control of the different players. Play by mail wargames are popular, and they appeal to individuals who like to plan their moves at their leisure, typically meeting a fortnightly deadline imposed by the company or individual hosting the game. They cover a variety of periods and give players the opportunity to join games with more players than typical over the table or board wargames allow. They also tend to have a more strategic element, or add a mix of role playing or economic activities to the games. More recently, computer wargames have taken great leaps forward with quicker games and ever improving graphics. Broadband has enabled many games to be played on line with opponents other than the computer. Finally, Paint Ball gaming is popular with a large number of paint ball sites around the world of varying quality and with varying prices. In This CategoryRecent articles |
