News from Aces High, 11th November 09 AIR COMBAT PAINTINGS VOL VI THE UK BOOK LAUNCH
THE WENDOVER GALLERY - 21st & 22nd NOVEMBER
![]() This will be our biggest event of the year and we are joined by the worlds most collected Aviation Artist, Robert Taylor to meet collectors and sign copies of his new book. Also joining us are a number of WWII veterans of the Battle of Britain and the Luftwaffe, who are happy to autograph items for customers. Aviation Artist ROBERT TAYLOR - with
a reputation established over the last four decades, he is widely
regarded as the worlds premier painter of aviation subjects, and is the
most widely collected aviation artist in the history of the genre. He
has done more to popularise aviation art than any other artist and his
work is the benchmark by which all others in this field set their
standards.
Flt Lt BEN BENT DFC - flew
as a Radar /W.Op on Blenheims on night fighter duties throughout the
Battle of Britain and later a Navigator on Beaufighters and Mosquitoes
assisting in seven victories including the first enemy aircraft shot
down on D-Day.
Sqn Ldr GEOFFREY WELLUM DFC - flew
Spitfires at just 18 years old with 92 Sqn during Battle of Britain. He
later joined 65 Sqn before moving to Malta flying Spitfires from the
carrier HMS Furious and finished the War with 3 confirmed victories.
Flt Lt WILLIAM WALKER (Sat only) - called
up to full time he joined 616 Sqn equipped with Spitfires in time for
the Battle of Britain. Baling out in August 1940 he spent time in
hospital before rejoining the squadron and also went on to serve with
116 Sqn.
Wg Cdr TIM ELKINGTON (Sat only) - during
the Battle of Britain he flew Hurricanes with 1 Sqn. After a spell with
601 Sqn he joined 134 Sqn flying Hurricanes and Spitfires in Russia. He
also served with 1 & 197 Sqns on Typhoons and 67 Sqn in India.
Sqn Ldr NIGEL ROSE (Sun only) - joining
602 Sqn he flew Spitfires throughout the Battle of Britain, claiming
several destroyed aircraft, he was then posted to 54 Sqn in September
1941 and also spent time in the Middle East.
Flt Lt TERRY CLARKE DFM (Sun only) - called
up in 1939 he qualified as an Air Gunner and also Radio
Observer. Joining 219 Sqn he flew on Beaughfighters throughout the
Battle of Britain and also served with 1455 and 1451 Flights and 488
(NZ) Sqn.
Hauptmann KARL-FRITZ SCHLOSSSTEIN - flew
Me110s with JG5 before then commanding 13./JG5. He later converted to
Me109s and also flew the ME410 Hornet with ZG76, but finished the war
with JG54 flying Fw190s in Defence of the Reich.
Major HANS-EKKEHARD BOB KC - with
JG54, he flew Me109s across Poland, France and throughout the Battle of
Britain. He later commanded IV./JG3 on the Eastern Front and ended the
war on Me262’s with Galland’s JV44, scoring a total of 60 victories.
Oberleutnant WALTER SCHUCK KC - initially
with I./JG3 he flew Me109s with JG5 once scoring 12 victories on one
day making him the leading scorer on the Arctic Front. He later flew
the Me262 with JG7 and finished the war with 206 victories.

![]() This promises to be an outstanding event and we are joined by Robert Taylor with a number of WWII Fighter Aces to sign items for collectors. We will also exhibit an extensive display of framed and loose Aviation and Military Art by Robert Taylor and other leading artists. Due to time constraints Robert isn’t often able to appear at events these days either in the UK
or US and of course meeting these veterans is becoming an increasingly
rare opportunity. These promise to be great occasions and more details
