Tom Clancy has done a number of books with senior US Officers, and this is certainly an interesting one. Tony Zinni joined the US Marine Corps in 1961, and first saw action as an advisor in Vietnam. He was wounded there in 1968.

Much of the book covers operations in Africa and the Middle East where his role as a troubleshooter saw him countries like in Somalia and Israel. He was in Jerusalem when the First Gulf War ended visiting Patriot Missile  crews. He went on to be Chief of CENTCOM, taking command in August 1997.

As an insight into the troubled region in the recent past, this book is excellent value.
