The South Atlantic Special Interest Group's first chance to exhibit the 2007 Falklands Memorial display was a great success. Thanks to the helpful staff at the Fleet Air Arm Museum, the SIG was positioned in front of their own Falklands Conflict exhibit. This gave an excellent backdrop for our growing display.
We were able to show a good selection of Royal Navy ship models from the conflict (eleven in all) plus Sea Harriers, a Harrier GR3 and a few Army models. We also had a small Argentine selection; an Iroquois helicopter and a 1/600 model of the submarine Santa Fe. Helicopters are a little thin on the ground yet, but there are several in the pipeline being made by SIG members and others. By the time the Nationals come around on Remembrance weekend, we should have a very extensive exhibit.
For me, one of the most rewarding parts of the show was the interest shown in the SIG display by Falklands veterans. I was able to chat with several of them and they clearly appreciated our efforts on their behalf.
All in all, it was a very successful first outing of the year.
